Childbirth Educator

 

Are you interested in becoming a Childbirth Educator?  The Childbirth Educator (CBE) program provides a comprehensive and engaging educational experience meant to prepare strong educators who are looking to diversify or develop their career in this field.

A combination of in-class and self-taught learning, this program is designed for professionals who have a passion for educating and a calling to prepare expecting families from prenatal through postpartum topics.  This program will help you deepen your knowledge and experiences related to Childbirth Education, build your confidence as a teacher, and open doors for opportunities related to birth and postpartum work.

Through the curriculum and assignments students will learn pedagogical styles of adult learning, non-biased approaches to educating, historical and theoretical foundations of childbirth education, business practices for childbirth educators and a detailed content discussing topics that expecting families look to receive in modern practices of birth and parenting.

Certification Process

Each student must complete the following certification requirements.  Students have a maximum of 2 years to complete all requirements from the date they attended their training course. Extensions may be granted on an individual basis.

 

• Attend the 24 hour (3 day) Doula Training Canada Childbirth Educator in class training

• Obtain 20 approved Educational Units (5 on each of these topics: Birth and Labour support, Postpartum Recovery and support, Breastfeeding, Business) and provide a written summary of what you learned (for more information on Educational Units, click here)

• Be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR level C

• Provide birth support to two families (with evaluations from the family and a written personal account of the experience) and complete an assignment regarding the benefits of birth support (for this requirement, special consideration will be given to those previously certified as a Birth Doula)

• Provide postpartum support to two families (with evaluations from the family and a written personal account of the experience) and complete an assignment regarding the benefits of postpartum support (for this requirement, special consideration will be given to those previously certified as a Postpartum Doula)

• Achieve a minimum grade of 85% on a theoretical written exam

• Complete 13 required readings (1 as a pre-requisite) and provide a 1 page summary of each

• Complete all assignments and projects as required

• Achieve a minimum grade of 85% on a practical exam

• Reflective paper

(Early Bird pricing of $1025 is in effect until 3 weeks before class date.  $225 deposit due at time of registration, balance can be made in installments.  A late fee will be applied to registrations and/or payment received less than 3 days before training)

Cost of educational units, First Aid and CPR training and books are not included in registration fee
